Friendship and Fun!
Club Amity is all about friendship and fun for homeschooled kids who are 18 months to 16 years old. Every homeschooling mom knows that the one-on-one learning in the home is irreplaceable. The closeness, the bonding, and the maximization of a child’s talent to prepare for their future is why we do it. But there is one thing missing. One thing that can’t be duplicated in the sought after homeschooling environment – other kids. Our homeschooled children get the best at home and Club Amity provides the best in any social scene. Club Amity doesn’t just provide “other classes,” and it doesn’t just provide “other kids,” it provides group activities, teamwork, parties, contests, and social skill building. Club Amity is “Social Studies” at its best.
Club Amity is a co-op where the parent stays and helps out – a true cooperation effort! A class schedule of awesome and fun classes is created each year based on the talents and interests of the mentors (aka Club Moms and Student Teachers), but one thing is constant – the fun and friendly atmosphere that sets Club Amity apart!
Club Amity Mission
The mission of Club Amity is to provide an environment where homeschooled kids can come together and develop friendships and hone social skills while engaging in highly social learning activities. We also aim to instill a love of serving those in our communities, building strong relationships, and collaborating with one another to do something bigger than we could do independently.
Club Amity Philosophy
The Club Amity philosophy is that children need friends and leadership opportunities to round out their education. Learning alongside friends creates interactions that result in improved social and collaboration skills. Children who are experienced in true cooperation as kids become adults who can follow appropriately, lead effectively, and live awesomely.
Club Amity Times and Location
Club Amity meets on Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm with an optional park lunch meet-up on all days (snowy and sunny!) after co-op. There’s a super fun sledding hill there, a big playground, and a hidden forest. Yep. It’s pretty much the coolest park in the Western half of the United States. And possibly Europe.
The venue location is in Fruit Heights.
Club Amity Classes
The Club Amity day is packed with extracurricular classes that vary depending on the interests, talents, and ideas of the mentors (aka Club Moms and Student Teachers). It really doesn’t matter what, exactly, the topic is. There is so much good learning to be had! Music, math, mosaics… and that’s just some M ideas. Extracurricular class examples are: Juggling, Dance, Yoga, Singing/Choir, Games through the Ages, Science Experiments, Physics Experiments, Jump Rope, Public Speaking, Poetry, Beginning Languages, and other fun classes that lend themselves well to working with others. Club Amity Mentors will be supported as they create lessons that include group and partner work. A class schedule will be created before each year.
A note to the moms...
We are so happy you are checking out our co-op, and want to help you know what is required to be a member of Club Amity. We know that teaching a class can feel intimidating (trust us, we get it), but we all are so unique and have different passions and talents! More often than not, we find our moms teaching classes that come naturally to them! While we do encourage you to create your own curriculum for your class, we are here to help and can direct you to resources to help make your life easier. We also require a simple background check, that you are willing to teach and help in one class each trimester, and also sub for others occasionally. While we take your teaching preferences into consideration (we love when you can teach what YOU love!), we also need class variety. Please know you may be asked to teach a subject that is new to you, but we are here to help!
End of Trimester Showcases
A fun end-of-trimester Showcase is held to show off all the cool work each class has done through the semester! The Showcases are super awesome and fun (Seriously though, could we have it any other way? No.). The Club Amity Members can enjoy each other’s successes as well as have an awesome time together as they celebrate their great trimester. Students perform, projects are displayed, and we eat a potluck style meal that’s all planned by our awesome student officers! It’s pretty rad.
Club Amity Student Body Officers
Club Amity recognizes the talents of kids of all ages and all Club Members will have a chance to run for the Club Amity Student Body. Student Body Officers are important for unification and awesomeness. Club Amity Officers are voted in and stay peer leaders for one year (Fall-Spring). They can run again! All things like parties, showcases, Spirit Days, etc. are planned by the Officers and they lead out in every Club Amity activity.
Club Parties
Club Parties are held at least once a trimester to celebrate holidays. Parties are always held during Club Amity time, Tuesdays 10 am – Noon. Club Members combine together to provide fun games and snacks and awesomeness.
